Scoring Slovak set to play with Miro and Kozlov
Richard Zednik spent very little time on Long Island before getting right on the ice for the morning skate today at Nassau Coliseum.
Zednik is happy to be in the playoff mix with the Islanders.
"It's exciting to be here with the Islanders fighting for a playoff position," said Zednik. "It's a great opportunity for me to help the team."
So what can we expect from the former 30-goal scorer?
"I like to use my speed and go to the net," said Zednik. "I'm offensive-minded and create chances for my linemates and score some goals."
Added Nolan at the morning press conference: "We did a lot of research on him for a while. He has a competitive nature. Richard's a good team guy and we know how well he's performed down the stretch and in the playoffs. He's very competitive and fits into our system well. Everyone we spoke to on the team that has played with him had nothing but good things to say about Richard."
One player Zednik has some experience playing with is Miroslav Satan. Nolan indicated the two would see time together. Satan and Zednik have played together on the Slovakian national team during a number of international tournaments.
"Hopefully, we'll contribute offensively and score some goals," said Zednik referring to his compatriot." We played together at the World Championship and it was fun. Hopefully, it will continue here with the Islanders."
The 11-year NHL veteran has also had experience playing with Brendan Witt while with the Capitals and Arron Asham when they both skated for the Montreal Canadiens from 2000-2002.
Zednik, who will wear No. 20 played in only 32 games this season with Washington due to injury, but feels completely healthy after returning in the beginning of February.
"I was injured for most of the season," said Zednik, "so I'm happy to be healthy again and am ready to play. I feel fresh and look forward to helping the Islanders make the playoffs."

Islanders get Zednik from Capitals for draft pick

WASHINGTON (AP) -The New York Islanders , locked in a tight race to make the Eastern Conference playoffs, added some offense Monday when they acquired winger Richard Zednik from the Washington Capitals for a second-round draft pick in 2007.
Zednik has six goals and 12 assists for the Capitals this season. He has also missed 31 games with wrist and groin injuries.
"Richard is a proven offensive talent," New York general manager Garth Snow said. "When you can add a player with his skill and competitiveness for a playoff push at a fair cost, you do it. We believe Richard will fit in well with our team."
The Islanders entered Monday tied with Montreal for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, although both teams were only six points behind third-place Ottawa.
The acquisition of Zednik could give the Islanders leeway to move forward Jason Blake , who has been the subject of trade rumors. The NHL's trade deadline is Tuesday.
Zednik, 31, spent parts of six seasons with the Capitals before he was dealt to Montreal in 2001. He scored 20 goals three times for the Canadiens, including a career-high 31 in 2002-03. The Capitals reacquired him from Montreal for a third-round pick last summer.
Zednik is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The Capitals attempted to sign him to a contract extension, but general manager George McPhee said the two sides were "not very close" to a deal.
"We discussed it for the last couple of months, and it just didn't work out," McPhee said.
The move could be the first of several before Tuesday's deadline for the Capitals, who have fallen out of playoff contention after a competitive start to the season. McPhee said he first realized he would be a seller rather than a buyer when the team had several injuries during the most compact part of the schedule from Christmas through New Year's Day.
"We lost all five games, and we never recovered," McPhee said. "It's really too bad. The team was having a nice season. We didn't have the depth to survive that."
With the trade, the Capitals have three picks in the first two rounds of this year's draft.

Here it is, Sunday night already!
We have a house guest now, who is currently crashed - playing too much in the snow with his daddy this morning and then with Dan this evening.
We weren't sure if the hockey game was going to happen or not because of the weather - we ended up with a couple of inches of snow and the roads were BAD on the way to the game. Coming back wasn't too bad. We picked up Cash after the game.
I got some good pictures. We were in the second row, but there was no one in front of us. We missed the warm up because of taking our time to get to the game. But right before the game, Scott Gomez (with the Devils) threw a sticker (I think from his jersey) over the glass and it hit me. So during the game whenever he came over I would point at him and yell.
