Black Friday Shopping

My main goal was to get to Petsmart for the $19.99 extra large dog beds and 50% off dog treats (plus using the manufacturer coupons I have). Did so with no problems - first parking spot next to the handicapped space, all the employees helpful even when I had problems at the checkout where a lot of the treats didn't come up on sale or I picked up ones that weren't. The cashier was wonderful.

Next was Office Depot (almost right next door) where I picked up 1 DVD for $3.99 (reg. $9.99 each), photo paper (3 for $13.49 - reg. $13.49 each), batteries for $2.50 each (reg. 3.99 each) and a flash drive for $24.99 (reg. 79.99).

Next stop - ACMoore - 30% off entire purchase (including sales items) until 12 noon - overspend here, but got plenty of scrapbooking supplies to keep me busy for awhile! I did save $190.24 though! :)

The best deal I got was at Walgreens (the last stop) - previously viewed DVDs - $2.50 each!

I did a major Black Friday one year (Walmart, Best Buy, etc).  Never again.  To me it wasn't worth it.  I think today's type of shopping is the best - hit the locations that aren't as popular and still get some good deals!

Capitals viewing party

Glasses we got for going. More on the event later.

11/23 -
I have been planning to go to this Washington Capitals Viewing Party as soon as I heard about it.  Glory Days is close to our house and I've been wanting to go to a viewing party.

It was ALOT of fun.  Hubby, myself and our neighbors-Dan, Stephanie & Jax- met up there, had dinner and hung out for the game.  When we walked in, we said 4 people as the Red Rockers gave us 4 glasses.  There were raffle tickets and a players name and number.  If the player scored, you would get a prize.  When Dan & Stephanie came in, they got glasses too!  So, we got 2 extra - which is fine with me.  More chances right?  WRONG!  We (all four of us; 7 if you count Jax and the two phantom people that we got glasses for) won NOTHING!

That made the night - the Capitals lost big time 5-0.  Come to find out half way through the game, the backup goalie (Neuvy) was injured so they didn't pull Holtby and they were waiting for Varly's equipment to arrive to officially announce that he was brought up from Hershey.  By that time, it was too late, Caps were losing BIG TIME.  Crazy stuff.  Neuvy was injured in the morning skate, yet they didn't have time to get Varly to NJ in time.  Varly had played 2 nights in a row, so it was unlikely they would have let him play.

Oh Caps - let's get back on the winning train......

Cleaning out the office bag

Everyday, I tote my rolling bag back and forth to and from the office.  I began using it when I had to bring in my own soda and my lunchbag was a heavy bag to carry especially since we have to walk a ways from the parking lot to the office.  Since I have neck issues, using the rolling bag helps.

Today, I'm cleaning out my bag and looking at the articles I had printed out to read.  This article is too good not to keep, but will use the link to keep it instead of the paper copy.

How to simplify when you really love your stuff

The best quote from this article is:
"There is beauty and art in many things, but consider this: you don’t have to own them all to appreciate them. Eckhart Tolle once suggested to Oprah Winfrey that she not buy everything she likes or wants — just savor it for the moment in the store."

Our pup AKA the drama queen, 60 day countdown, and body images of celebrities

The Drama Queen
Esa had her doctor visit last night for 2 shots.  I figured, this should be easy, she's good at getting shots.  Boy was I wrong.  Back up to the last visit.  We "tried" to give Esa a pedicure.  We tried her on a leash, 2 (YES, TWO) muzzles and gauze and 3 adults.  She was an escape artist.  So much for the pedicure.

This time, I was asked if we wanted to try and I said no - not after last time.  Dr. Foster (AKA Chrissie to us since we are friends) give Esa her first shot.  Then Esa realized she had to get a 2nd shot and she was ready to get out of there.  It took a leash, peanut butter & gauze to get her to sit still.  Then it was over.  As soon as it was over, she shook, then went over to Chrissie to get her treat.  Silly, silly pup.

Zed was looked over to see how his skin is doing and we have decided to give him some antifungal meds to get him over the itching hump.  That with the baths and benedryl should help.  Zed got his nails cut and he was just a little whiner.  Even when Chrissie wasn't clipping him.  He bounced right back though.

60 day countdown
So, in 60 days I will be coming to the end of my Westfield career.  We are still fighting, but I have a feeling it's not going to help.  I have applied for the new company and have an interview tomorrow.  The emotion wave comes and goes.  It sucks being in limbo and I would prefer to be out of it.

Body Images of Celebrities
Monday, Portia De Rossi was on Oprah to talk about her book.  I am definitely going to read it.  I was very surprised to hear her story and the struggles she has gone through.  What she went through with anerexia and bulemia was just amazing for someone that was in the height of her career.  It just shows that the mind plays terrible games and someone who you think has it all together, may not.  I can remember that eating disorders were a big topic during middle school & high school.  Just because that is when most girls have the issues.  We actually had a classmate who was anerexic during our senior year and I can remember a co-worker who was taking dieting to the exteme with her roommates.  I never had those (anerexic) tendencies - although sometimes I wish I did.  My tendencies go towards eating and eating and eating - no way I would ever purge.  I hate throwing up.  It's just different mental thoughts - none of which are good.

Portia's story touched me because it has been so long since I've thought about those eating disorders.  The media focus right now is on obesity.  It would be nice if the US could find a happy medium with their relationship with food.  I guess I need to just start with myself..... :)

So long to the visitor, giving blood & halloween

Thursday night was another evening with the nephew - we met up with SB & MS for dinner again at Cheeburger, Cheeburger.  Where VJ proceeded to eat the 1lb burger (I knew he'd be able to), got his picture taken for the wall, and got the promo pack of a t-shirt & extra picture.

He left about 10 pm for home.  It was a short visit, but worth every minute.  Even though we didn't do much together, it was so worth it.

Saturday morning was the Capitals blood drive at Kettler Ice Arena.  Something about either the Caps blood drives or having Dan with me is a bad omen for me.  The girl who poked me with the needle didn't get it in there correctly and the blood did NOT flow AND it was hurting!  I've NEVER had issue giving blood (either for tests or donations).  Needless to say, I basically immediately bruised up and boy is it big now.  I've never had a bruise this big from blood being drawn.  Dan was the man though - he gave double blood cells!  I had never heard of that before.  It took a little bit longer and he was FREEZING afterwards (the blood gets put back in the body cold) and a little light-headed.  Then yesterday he was exhausted - not sure if it was from the blood donation or not.

Halloween went well.  We handed out all of the candy - probably a little too fast - but we handed out for 2 hours.  Kids were still coming to the door after we turned off the light.  It was cold out and Dan was trying to get dinner for us, but it wasn't done before the doorbell started ringing.  We sat outside for awhile with the pups (Zed was shivering, he was so cold).  Esa had on her bat collar and Zed had on his wizard costume.  We just weren't really into halloween this year (my reason is because of the job being in limbo).

Yesterday, I took Zed up to visit the shelter.  One of the employees, who fell for Zed as much as I did, hadn't seen him since we took him home.  She was so impressed on how good he looked.

Work is still in limbo.  The new company, Marketplace Development, and the Airport Authority are working towards bringing in the new company.  Everyday, I feel the contract coming to an end and it's hard to stay motivated and positive.  I have sent in my resume to Marketplace, but have yet to hear from them to set up an appointment.  I did get an email saying that they would like to speak with me, but nothing else.  In the meantime, I'm sticking with Westfield until the end.
