Another Monday - will I EVER get close to catching up? Maybe if nothing came in, I could get a little, but not a chance of that.
This weekend was non-eventful. Saturday, to Chipotle for lunch, home to watch the last video (Zathura) before taking them back and then grocery store.
Sunday, Dan & Mae went to see Pirates of the Carribean. I decided to pass. I don't mind going once to the theater to see a movie, but I can usually wait to see it again on DVD.
(and their human parents)
This blog started as The adventures of a D.I.N.K. family where the two "kids" are four legged and how we are going to retire early. Now it's a 1 income, 1 entrepreneur, and 1 pup getting closer and closer to retirement.

What a week so far.
Sunday, Chipotle for lunch and then shopping (the mall; Bed, Bath & Beyond and Best Buy) for the rest of the afternoon, then just chilling at home. We bought Mae a light for her new bedroom when she returns home. She's finally getting a room of her own and is very excited.
Monday, I met Mike Powers (and his family) from the funeral parlor in Hornell at their gate during their layover to Cancun. I was at work at 7:30 a.m.! Then at 10 a.m., Chris and I had to go to Wheaton for a follow-up meeting to the employee survey. We didn't get back into the office until almost 4 p.m. So goes the day.....
Last night, Mae & I went to the grocery store to pick up a prescription for me and then to the video store. We got movies I figured Dan wouldn't want to see (expect one) - Rent, Failure to Launch, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Zathura (which Dan wants to see) and one other movie that I can't remember. We watched Rent last night. I was surprised when Mae wanted to see it - but it doens't surprise me - she's into musicals right now (as in High School Musical - http://psc.disney.go.com/disneychannel/originalmovies/highschoolmusical/).
Tonight, Circuit City to pick up Final Destination 3 (www.fd3movie.com) and Bed, Bath & Beyond to pick up a backrest pillow for her new room since she won't have a chair in there. Also need to stop to ship a book out that I sold on Half.com! Woohoo! Maybe we'll have dinner at the mall.....

Thoughts & Wishes :
Dear Helen,
The only bad thing about what has happened is that I will have to face you some day and ask forgiveness of you for breaking a long time promise to be here today in person to lead this celebration. Were it at all possible we would have come to join this gathering of family and friends to speak of precious memories that will linger throughout eternity.
My thoughts do not come in chronological order, and my rememberer is not what it used to be, but “I (do) thank my God for every remembrance of you!” They say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so let me speak of the beauty I saw in you.
· Your transparency – always up front, without guile; sometimes hurting, rarely deliberately hurtful
· Your musical talent – singing with the “Faded Roses”; at the organ, trying to keep up with me and my piano playing of some unknown chorus in some strange key
· Your time – always making time to go to the nursing homes for a service, or being in your place in the Lord’s house just about every time the doors were open; over 235 years of Christian service we said – now that’s a lot of time!
· Your trustworthiness – what you said you would do, you did; a trustworthy Treasurer, be it with pennies or dollars. By the way, I still have that paycheck you gave me that April 1st for $1,000,000, signed by Ronald Reagan!
· Your taste-buds – they never failed; you never fell short of the mark at the stove; real Italian carbs – thanks so much for the calories!
· Your tenacity – resolve, stubbornness (?); your many comebacks when we thought we would lose you. You were one tough cookie!
· Your thoughtfulness – remembering us in times of laughter, and tears; gracious in giving to the Lord and your church family; always looking out for your pastor and his family
· Your thankfulness – for the little things that were done for you, as well as the bigger ones; you never forgot to say “thank you” and show thankfulness, be it with an open hand or a gentle kiss on the cheek accompanied by a warm hug.
It must be great moving without having to pack, or unpack. If you had waited a bit longer, I would have seen you once again. I’m sure you waited as long as you had to and then took the big leap in faith. It was so worth it, wasn’t it! Ronalyn told us she doesn’t want to hear us say, “Sorry about your loss!” She also speculates that you are playing an organ, and singing – probably with Josephine. Whatever - you’re in good company, and some of us may join you soon. Because we love you so, we’ll let you go, but we will not forget!
Much more could be said, but you’re finally free and don’t have to listen to my long sermons any more. “A person can have no better epitaph than that which is inscribed in the hearts of his (or her) friends.” Your epitaph has been written, in bold strokes of love.
We love you, and the family you've left behind!!!

The previous two entries are from Helen's funeral.
Chris was in the trio with Mom & Helen. She always written a poem for our family - Mom, Aunt Annie.
Pastor Dravneek has always been close to Helen. Since he now lives in NC, he was unable to make the funeral, but wrote some info to be read.
Portions of my blog from July 17 also got read. When the Pastor got to the portion where I mentioned Helen influencing my life, I lost it. I think it echoed throughout the church. I was laughing too. I expected to cry, but not lose it and have it echo throughout the church!
Monday, we cleaned out her room - It's amazing how much stuff you can get in half a hospital room! We made two trips to Salvation Army, one trip to Vincent & Joanne's to deliver Helen's lift chair, and then loaded (I mean loaded) the Jeep with boxes - we had to leave 2 boxes behind at Vincent & Joanne's for them to bring down. We couldn't see out the back window when we drove back.
When we went through Helen's clothes, I knew either one of two dresses was the one that she wanted to be buried in. Yes - she let us know what dress to bury her in. One was the dress she wore to our wedding (short sleeved) and then there was one - long sleeved, that she had made. Since she was SO skinny, we went with the long sleeve one.
The viewing hours were nice. Helen looked like she was in her 60s and not 92. Her hair looked nice and the dress looked good. They put a hanky in her hands to cover them up - even the funeral director was shocked on how skinny she was.
It was great to see my cousins and people from church that I hadn't seen in forever both at the viewing hours and at the funeral. My cousin, Kathy, and I talked about getting together to do scrapbooking or the family history. She has an interest in both also. It sounded like my other cousin, Carol, is also intested in the family history, so maybe we can get some stuff written.
I also got to spend some time with two "distant" cousins - Marge and Theresa. We aren't really sure how we are related, except by a last name, but we talked about figuring it out.
I actually got to spend some time with my brother, Brett, who I haven't seen in two years. He came alone, so time was well spent.
Wednesday afternoon, Dan and I went to the cemetary. I told him - time to meet the family! It was nice. I hadn't been up to the cemetary in a long time. I also got some information that I don't think I have for the family tree.
Dan also got to see the church where I grew up. It was kind of nice to let him see more of Hornell than usual.

So it's back to work - working my MOD day today.
We drove back on Thursday. Mae came back with us. We were planning on going to NY on the 28th to pick her up, so the funeral just moved it up a little.
Friday, it was work as usual. Steph is on vacation (yes, again) until next Thursday, so I got some things done yesterday. Today, I got things in order and did a walkthrough. That's about all I usually accomplish on MOD day. I work 8 hours straight - do about a 2 hour walkthrough and then type up the report/follow up on the report. That doesn't leave much time left, so the day goes by fast.
I'll have to write more when I'm home - about the viewing hours and the funeral - I'll probably end up crying so it's better to do so at home.
Looking forward to tomorrow - A day off! We are going to Chipotle with Suzanne (Payday for Suzanne for watching Babe while we were away and Mae has been drooling for Chipotle since last year) and then probably play miniture golf.
It's been fun so far with Mae. Thursday, Dan complained the whole drive about Mae singing to her songs she was listening to on her CD player during the drive. He especially didn't like it when I knew the song and started singing along too!
But, about one hour after we got home and unpacked, the fun began - downstairs they went and played PS2 until past 10 p.m. Who knows how long they stayed up and played - I had to get up the next day for work!
Friday, Dan stayed home and did some work from home. Mae and him went to the grocery store and $75 later came home. From the looks of the pantry, they bought a lot of stuff for Mae to eat (ramen noodles, chef boyardee - things right down my cooking alley). Last night, Mae & I got to watch Degrassi (http://www.the-n.com/ntv/shows/index.php?id=67) together. That was cool since we talk about it all of the time.
I don't know what's the plan for tonight - I need to get out of here and head home.

And everywhere we sang with joy
And loved it all the while.
We sang in churches here and there
And those who hear were blessed
For we were being used by God

But Jo departed from this live
And she was badly missed
But Helen and I continued on
A duet with a twist.
For Helen played piano
For the One that she adored.
We sang duets or she accompanied me.
Making music for our Lord.
Although our music has been stilled
Erased by earthly pain.
One day - when we reach Heaven's shore
Our trio will sing again!

NORTH HORNELL - Helen V. Caprarulo, 92, passed away (July 16, 2006) at McAuley Manor.
Born in Hornell Nov. 21, 1913, she was the daughter of James V. and Mary LaSalle Caprarulo. Helen was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, where she had also been the treasurer for many years. She retired from Westinghouse in Bath.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose Datini, Josephine Clark, Anna Caprarulo; and her brother, John Caprarulo.
She is survived by her sister, Nicoli Mowers of Fillmore; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Bert Tidlund officiating. Burial will be at the Hornell Hope Cemetery.
Friends may make memorial contributions to the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 342 Seneca Road, Hornell, NY 14843.

0 Pageviews You think you can tell about a person's life from their obituary.
When I first read Helen's obituary, I though - that's it? It doesn't cover all the stuff she's done, does it?
Yes, she was a supervisor at Westinghouse in Bath - but I never knew her to work there - of course, she was 55 when I was born.
Yes, she was the treasurer of the church for MANY, MANY years - I don't even know how many years. She was also the organist for MANY, MANY years. Involved in every thing possible with the church - board member, women's ministries, church dinners, dinners for visitors, funeral dinners - any dinners that the church had. She was also a part of the "trio". Most of the time the trio was known as the "Glad Tidings Assembly of God Trio" - later (before my mom past away), they were known as the "Faded Roses" as Pastor Dravneek used to call them.
Yes, she had too many nieces and nephews to list - even if they listed just the 1st generation nieces and nephews. Not all the siblings were listed that have past - only the ones from 1980s on - there were also some that I never met - George (who died when he was about 10 after getting hit by a car), Philly (who died in 1940's with TB), Carmen (who also died from TB in the 1940's).
No biggy though - people who knew Helen usually knew her past. And peole who see her obituary will see - wow, she was 92!
But what about how many lifes a person has touch? That doesn't show in a obituary. Helen was the best aunt I could have even asked for and shaped my life like I never though someone could - probably more than either one of my parents ever did. She's the reason why I became a secretary - AND so organized AND so detailed. Every Sunday, I would watch her do church paperwork - counting money, filling out the journals - BY HAND and usually without a calculator. I still have the typewriter she used to let me "play" with. At 10 I was pretty good at one finger typing.
How about how good of a cook a person was? I don't know how many people Helen touched with her cooking. A countless number of people - she even cooked for the Oak Ridge Boys when they had a concert at our church (and where still considered a christian group). The Christmas dinners, the Sunday dinners, the cookouts and picnics, the Easter cookies, the Easter pie, the Calzones, the grilled cheese sandwiches - no one could make a grilled cheese sandwich like hers. I never got the cooking gene (or should I say lessons) from her - it was her kitchen and no one else cooked in it. I got my mom's cooking gene - fast and easy. Luckily, Dan got to experience the Christmas cooking lessons from Helen. Joanne too, but still it's not the same and I'm sure Dan and Joanne will agree.
An obituary doesn't show how good of a person someone was. In the last two days I've heard so many good comments and stories on how Helen touched that person's life. It's not even the calling hours yet - wait until then. That's when I start tearing up (like now), I think about all the good things she has done - for me, Dan, my brothers, Joanne, my nieces and nephew - she would have gived us the world. I guess she has because she meant so much to us. Luckily, she knew we loved her with all our hearts. Even people that weren't related to her, she loved them dearly - her next door neighbor (Mary) , Pastor Dravneek (who I consider her last pastor), her PA (Sandy) and some of the nurses aides at the nursing home (Howard, Carol).
What about a person's hobbies? She could tell you everything that happened on Young & the Restless, Bold & the Beautiful, As the World Turns and the Guiding Light back in the day. She got my mom hooked them and then me. How about all of the flower gardens she's grown. Because of her, I have a liking of Lily of the Valley, Poppies, and Johnny Jump ups.
What about the little things? Every year, we'd go berry picking at her house. I'd always end up getting stung by a bee, but it was worth it. She'd freeze berries for me and make me berry icecream. She'd pick me up from school everyday and then take me to McDonalds. She'd cook me plain spaghetti with butter because I didn't care for sauce - now I'm really picky about my sauce and will only eat sauces that compare to Helen's. What about reading the comics to me every Sunday and doing the Mini-page with me?
I could go on and on so many memories in one paragraph.

When I first read Helen's obituary, I though - that's it? It doesn't cover all the stuff she's done, does it?
Yes, she was a supervisor at Westinghouse in Bath - but I never knew her to work there - of course, she was 55 when I was born.
Yes, she was the treasurer of the church for MANY, MANY years - I don't even know how many years. She was also the organist for MANY, MANY years. Involved in every thing possible with the church - board member, women's ministries, church dinners, dinners for visitors, funeral dinners - any dinners that the church had. She was also a part of the "trio". Most of the time the trio was known as the "Glad Tidings Assembly of God Trio" - later (before my mom past away), they were known as the "Faded Roses" as Pastor Dravneek used to call them.
Yes, she had too many nieces and nephews to list - even if they listed just the 1st generation nieces and nephews. Not all the siblings were listed that have past - only the ones from 1980s on - there were also some that I never met - George (who died when he was about 10 after getting hit by a car), Philly (who died in 1940's with TB), Carmen (who also died from TB in the 1940's).
No biggy though - people who knew Helen usually knew her past. And peole who see her obituary will see - wow, she was 92!
But what about how many lifes a person has touch? That doesn't show in a obituary. Helen was the best aunt I could have even asked for and shaped my life like I never though someone could - probably more than either one of my parents ever did. She's the reason why I became a secretary - AND so organized AND so detailed. Every Sunday, I would watch her do church paperwork - counting money, filling out the journals - BY HAND and usually without a calculator. I still have the typewriter she used to let me "play" with. At 10 I was pretty good at one finger typing.
How about how good of a cook a person was? I don't know how many people Helen touched with her cooking. A countless number of people - she even cooked for the Oak Ridge Boys when they had a concert at our church (and where still considered a christian group). The Christmas dinners, the Sunday dinners, the cookouts and picnics, the Easter cookies, the Easter pie, the Calzones, the grilled cheese sandwiches - no one could make a grilled cheese sandwich like hers. I never got the cooking gene (or should I say lessons) from her - it was her kitchen and no one else cooked in it. I got my mom's cooking gene - fast and easy. Well - we got the call last night at 2 a.m. We'll be heading up to NY today.
Although it's very sad, it's so much a relief. Still the next couple of days will be emotionally trying.

The trip up went well - seems like it took forever. We had to go to DC first - to Dan's office and then take off - we finally got on the road around 3 p.m.
So - I've missed Rick Springfield - I had a feeling on Wednesday that I would. Oh well - he'll be back around.

Oh what a week....
I think I went to bed at like 9:30 last night - I woke up at 10:30 AM. Just exhausted.....
I did have a little me time this week - I went to a Creative Memories borders "class" on Thursday at my consultant's (Robin) house. Yesterday, I got a pedicure.
Today, not much going on - we went to Roy Roger's for lunch and then went to the shelter so we could drop off some boxes for the kitties and visited for a few minutes. Then back home - Dan drove out to where the new FBI building will be in 2007 (http://www.pwcecondev.org/directory/detail_site.asp?ID={AA1CA809-8D22-11D7-A2...) - where he hopes to transfer to - and I went to the grocery store. Dan's outside mowing now and then it will be crash in front of the TV time for us - maybe watch a movie or something.
Tomorrow - big day - I GET TO SEE RICK SPRINGFIELD! WOOHOO! Suzanne and Kristina are going with me - Dan's heading to work to get some stuff done. He's taking Friday off so we'll be able to spend some time together. Friday is my MOD day off and then I'll be working Sunday. Looks like we'll probably be going to see Clerks 2 (www.clerks2.com) on Friday then.

Oh what a week....

0 Pageviews The Washington Capitals bolstered their corps of forwards yesterday by acquiring speedy right wing Richard Zednik from the Montreal Canadiens for a third-round pick in next year's draft.
The 30-year-old is returning for his second stint in Washington after spending five seasons in Montreal, where he had 16 goals and 14 assists in 67 games last season.
"I had some really good years in Washington in the beginning of my career and now I'm excited to come back as a veteran," he said in a statement released by the Capitals.
Zednik's smooth skating stride and scoring touch will be welcome additions for a Capitals team that was short on skill on the right side. Coach Glen Hanlon will have the flexibility to play him on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Dainius Zubrus , or on the second line opposite Alexander Semin .
"We know Zed well, which is always nice because you know what you're getting in a player and in a personality," Capitals General Manager George McPhee said. "He's a very competitive player and is very strong and brings excellent speed and scoring ability."
"Something had developed in Montreal and Zed had asked for a change," McPhee added.
Zednik, who is due $1.976 million next season, has had 15 or more goals in all but one of eight full NHL seasons, and had 31 goals in 2002-03.
The Slovakia native was drafted by Washington in 1994 and dealt to Montreal along with Jan Bulis for Trevor Linden and Zubrus in 2001.

MY DAY HAS BEEN MADE - RICHARD ZEDNIK IS COMING BACK TO WASHINGTON!

After a bad day (and week), this has totally made my day. This week has been tough - Sunday, Joanne called at 9 p.m. to say that Helen had a fever and is bedridden. Monday she was the same. Tuesday, I called the nurses station and the fever had broken, but Helen wasn't eating, drinking, or taking medicine.
Tuesday was also a LONG day at work. We had to be in Baltimore at 8 a.m. - we left Dulles at 6 a.m. because we weren't sure how long it would take to get there. I was lucky I actually made it to Dulles on time. I set my alarm for 4:30 PM and not AM! I woke up at 5 a.m. - how? I don't know. We finally got back to the office around 2:30 p.m. Do we get to leave a little early? No.
Today, I had a meeting at National, went into the office, left for national around 10 for a 11 am meeting. The meeting got over around 12:30, went to our office there, went to lunch with Christina & LaTonya and then got back to Dulles around 3 p.m. When I told Stephanie that it took a little bit longer than I expected because I went to lunch with C & L, she rolled her head and eyes back. This is what I put up with at work - I'm allowed a lunch, but lately it's been 15-30 minutes AND interupted at that. After today, I have decided that I am walking out for lunch. I'll have to start taking sandwiches or something that easy to eat on the go and you don't have to heat up.
I was supposed to go to the shelter tonight, but dropped that because I needed to run some errands - shipping of more items I sold on half.com, picking up a Rx, and tried to get a pedicure. The pedicure was to calm me down and de-stress a little. That didn't happen - they were booked, so Friday, I'll be getting that pedicure.
So, came home, got on the computer, called Dan, we were talking about hockey since the schedule was released today. We were talking about going to Montreal for my birthday celebration and maybe about doing some Caps Road Crew (www.capsroadcrew.com) trips. I went to the website and SCREAMED in Dan's ear - ZEDNIK IS BACK! At least Dan's happy about it too and doesn't feel threatened! LOL!
So the bad day (and week) has become better. Even better - the boss is out of the office tomorrow.

Went to the doctors - it's official - sinus infection. I'm on antibiotics, nasal spray and a nasal decongestant. I'm hanging out at home today and probably will check in at work later. Probably will sleep some too and get on the computer. I love this work a day, have a day off! I wish every week was like this!
I sold some stuff on half.com! I decided to try half.com because you don't have to pay unless you sell something. With Ebay, they changed it and you have to pay to post an item. Half.com also reimburses you for shipping! Anyway, I've made about $7.00! Woohoo! Better than just donating it!

So - I'm still sick - now I know what it is - sinus infection. I've had so many of them that I know the signs now. Of course the doctor's office is closed today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to go.
Looks like I'll be missing the picnic today that we were supposed to have with Tom, Kat, Annabelle, and Mary. I'd hate to get them sick.
I called the nursing home last night and Helen is the same. It was a nurse that I had never talked to before so I had to keep prying info out of him by asking the right questions.
So today, I'll try to keep busy - I'm organizing my house ideas and trying to narrow them down. Then, I'll present them to Dan and say, this is what I want. Luckily, we usually think alike and like the same ideas. The next thing will be to get them done. That's where the trouble starts! LOL!
Babe is back 100%. She's begging for wet food all of the time, following us around in and out of the kitchen (where the wet food is). Her newest thing is watching the birds out the back door. Of course, I pointed them out to her. Our peeping tom was back and she was all over the window sills trying to get to it!

GREAT - I'm sick. It started Friday evening. I kept clearing my throat and then the sore throat and losing the voice. I don't know if it's sinuses or strep. I'm thinking it's sinuses because I feel a little bit better today - just tired, sore throat is less, but feel warm and cold. YUCK.
I HAVE to go to work this week too - I'm it. Chris & Stephanie are off and it's just me and Sandy until Thursday.
Just hanging out today - probably going to get groceries and rent a movie (I have a free rental coupon).
