Yesterday was get out of the house day for me. I went shopping at the Dollarama (Dollar Store), the Bargin Shop (like the Family Dollar Store), a pet store, Walmart, and then the so-called "mall" that they have (of about 20 stores with about 7 of them restaurants).
I didn't get anything great - toys for Esa, shirts for Dan (he didn't pack enough short sleeve shirts), gifts for Mae, Chrissy & Suzanne (Canadian Idol shirts and a Canada pullover - I couldn't find anything for VJ).
Esa is doing great without us holding the lead. We have her on the long lead so if she starts to run, we can step on it.
Last night we had a bonfire and did smores (I had just marshmallows). Esa wasn't phased at all by the fire. She was more interested in the sticks.
I now know the Wentz family secret to staying skinny - never sitting still. Both Lois (Dan's mom) and Kristina (Dan's sister) cannot sit still. I didn't realize Kristina was like that until now. They are constantly getting up and doing something - cleaning, picking up/getting something, etc. Me on the other hand (and Dan), we'll do it later - as in the dishes - they can sit there, we'll figure out what we want for dinner about an hour before (we know we have the food, just need to decide). Kristina is such a mom - planning the meals for the whole week ahead. But, we are all getting along. No fights. Dan did get a little pissed at Kristina when we were trying to find a park. She was set on finding a particular park that they had been to before where there were "small" lift locks. We didn't care, we just wanted to walk in a park. Anyway, the 2nd park that we were at, supposedly was the one that Kristina was looking for!
I did mentioned to Dan about how much Kristina is like their mom - he's like "DON'T TELL HER THAT!" Which I knew not too. Needless to say, I'm happy with Dan's laid back style (at least when we are on vacation). He's really helped me to relax and realize there's no need to rush (except when needed).

Last night was something. First, I scared Dan - he thought I was falling out of bed - I was trying to get up (fast) because of a leg cramp. Then the 1950's fan that we had on started making a terrible noise. So much for some air circulating!
Today, it's off to the park in the next town over - they have a lot of trails throughout the city. Probably a run to Walmart too.
9:15 p.m.
We went to two parks today. Not the one we expected to go to, but we didn't care - anywhere we could walk the dog was good. The first place had this REALLY steep hill. I was totally out of breath from that one - good thing Esa was pulling me up. The view was awesome once we got there.
Then we went to another park and just walked around and watched the water lift locks. Stopped at Wendy's for a late lunch and then back to the cottage. Esa was so tired by that time! She took a nap and we took her out for her evening walk - she was ready for bed at 8 p.m. Right now she's crashed out on the deck.
The weather has been great here! In the 70's with a breeze and a little sun.
I've been working on my digital pictures and the Creative Memories software that I have along with making a digital scrapbook (then send it in for printing). I want to create one for the whole year and then eventually get rid of memorabilia (ticket stubs, brochures, etc.).

Enjoying the cottage - I've got quite a few nice pictures of the view. Esa is really enjoying it here (along with us!).
Esa did great on the 11 1/2 hour trip. She only got antsy the last half hour (along with us). Kristina & Parker got here about 12:30 and we showed up about 8 p.m. The neighbors next door were out along with their dog, a black Lab named Luka, so of course, Esa was in heaven. Luka is able run around without a lease - we're just not sure with Esa. She's doing really well when off the leash (on the deck) or switching leashes (short to long lead).
Yesterday was our first full day and we basically just hung out except for Dan and I going to the grocery store (A&P - haven't seen one of those in forever!)
Esa will not go into the water. She LOVES going onto the dock, but will NOT go in (sort of like her mom). Maybe if Luka was here (she loved to go in the water), Esa would go. She looks like she's almost ready to go in when Parker is in the water, so maybe if Dan goes in, she'll follow him.
We might to go to a park today. It's pretty humid for Canada, but looks like the wind is starting to blow, so it might end up a nice day
10 pm
We just hung out around the house today. Played ALOT with Esa. She ALMOST got in the paddleboat with Dan. I got a lot of good pictures with her on the dock and playing with Parker.
I've been using our old 35mm camera - I didn't realize that I had 2 more rolls of film. So hopefully, all of the pics are coming out well.
I'm a little sore from the walking and paddleboat - but it's all good.
We are testing Esa on how she does without a leash. We put her on the long lead (about 15 feet) and let her run around. If she starts running, we can step on the leash. She actually went "turbo" on me and ran around the yard like three times, but then stopped. Later on, she went turbo again, but I had ahold of the leash and she kept flipping when she came to the end of the leash. I'm surprised she didn't hurt herself.
When she goes turbo, it brings back memories. Our dogs used to ALWAYS go turbo when they got out of the pens. They would just do laps in the yard. I would just sit down in the yard and eventually they would calm down.
