Busy, successful day!

Busy, successful day!

Great Strides was a success today! Luckily the rain held off! That was the biggest concern. We bidded on 2 items in the silent auction and won them. We know how to win at a silent auction since we've done a couple of them - just wait until the last minute and put the highest bid in.

We won a signed Capitals Young Guns poster (Green, Semin, Ovie and Backstrom) and Creative Memories (scrapbooking) items. Also got our 4 rose bushes.

Esa was so tired at the end, but she keeps going. She layed down for a while when we got home, but that's been it. We were surprised when she wanted to go for an evening walk.

When we got home, we had dinner and then over to Bloom for our second shopping triple coupon trip! We spent about $78, but saved $74! NICE! We should be set for awhile.

Not an exciting Saturday, but good all of the same

Not an exciting Saturday, but good all of the same

Current mood:hungry

Dan's working today, so I was out and about by myself. We went to lunch (Chipotle, of course!) and then I went to get a pedicure and the grocery store.

I decided to try out the new nail place in our shopping plaza - I thought it was the same owner as the one that I have been going to, but it's different - all good though. This place is AWESOME. I noticed the price was $4 more than the other place, but I figured I'd try it out. They were having a grand opening special - 10% off. WELL - let me just say, the extra $4 will be well worth it. The chairs are awesome (because they are new) and the do the extra things that usually other places charge for - the parfon (I think that's the name) wax, heated lotion AND towel. NICE! The lady really took her time with my toes and did a GREAT job.

Dan hadn't left for work yet when I headed over there and he had to stop at Bloom before leaving so he stopped by and said hi to me. The ladies were funny - they were trying to get him to sit down and get his nails done. LOL!

Then I headed next door to Bloom - TRIPLE COUPONS! LOVE IT! One error that I just noticed - the BOGO chicken didn't come off - I'll be heading back there tomorrow to use some more coupons. I ended up saving more than I spent (w/the error - spent $52, saved $62)!

Tonight was off to Stephanie's (my boss) Preakness Party - I actually won $12! I placed $16 in bets, so not bad - lost $4. I'll stick to the coupon game!

Tomorrow is Great Strides - hoping for some good weather!

And so my life has changed today (it started last night.....) AKA what happens when the Caps lose in the playoffs

What the hell happened last night? The Caps just didn’t show up. The Caps that did show up last night are the Caps I know and love – inconsistent.

I never expressed confidence that they were going to go all of the way – not that I didn’t believe or hoped, I just knew – Caps haven’t been consistent. I knew it was going to be game-by-game, period-by-period, shift-by-shift.

Last year, we got to the first round. This year, the second round. Slowly, we are climbing back up. Which is fine. Caps are building from the inside – the goal that Ted wanted. We’ve got the talent deep in the system. Now to keep them.

I hope the hockey momentum stays in Washington. So many years, we would go to games and half the Verizon Center would be empty. Now, Verizon is full. It’s crazy! Do all of these people watch or come to the games when the Caps when they are losing? Nope. (Know where I’m going with this??) I’ll save my hubby some despair and not going there….

So, now what – I won’t be jumping on any bandwagon for the next round or for the Cup. I’m loyal to my Caps. I DO root for any former Caps players who do go on. Luckily, I still a few players to root for (Huet (who I think is on the bench), Gonchar (WOOT!), and Cooke)!

As Extreme sings "There's a hole in my heart that can only be filled by you....." I will continue to be "Rockin' the Red" and be "Caps Beyond Intense".

A Busy Saturday (but all good!)

May 3, 2009

A Busy Saturday (but all good!)

Yesterday was a busy day for us – unfortunately, Dan wasn’t feeling too good, but stuck it out. We all (including Esa) had fun. And luckily, the rain held off for us.

First up was the Pet Fiesta at Reston Town Center. We had never been before. Boy, was it crowded! I didn’t expect it to be so crowded. Esa did great though – she all about meeting all of the other dogs.

We saw our neighbor, Lisa, with their dogs, Mela & Moose, at the Pug Rescue. Mela and Esa have been friends since the beginning; we just don’t see her too often. The surprise was to see Tatiana, who was Esa’s trainer for a couple of weeks at Petsmart when Leslie (her usual trainer) wasn’t there.

Tatiana asked if we were going to get Esa certified for the Good Canine Citizen. We’ve thought about it. It’s nice to hear a trainer say she’d be good for it!

Dog Day Afternoon (Esa’s daycare) was there. It’s always nice to see those ladies! We found out that Esa’s daycare friend, Marley, has a picture in NOVADOG. Supposedly, the two of them play rough together and just keep going all day.
Finally, we caught up with Laura (works at Dogtopia/Stephanie’s best friend). I haven’t seen her in awhile since I missed her bday party. L That was the first time Laura got to meet Esa.
We did buy a Frisbee for Esa at the Fiesta – SUPPOSEDLY, it’s indestructible and if the dog does ruin it, they will replace it. I tell you – Esa has some skills when it comes to “testing” toys. So far, there are 2 bite holes in it. Dan folded it and Esa bit through it. I blame Daddy-o.
We had to rush back for the game at 1 p.m. – GREAT GAME! Down to the last minute. We’ll see how long the Caps can keep it up – one game at a time…..
After the game, it was time for the obstacle course -
A little background - My (big) "dream" has been to have Esa as a frisbee or agility dog. Well, the frisbee dog doesn't really work since she just likes to chew the frisbees, but the agility - she seems to get.
When we went to VA Beach to the dog park there (in Sept), she seemed to pick up the agility items there (tunnel, jump, ramp). The next big idea - get an agility course for the backyard!
Good thing for Ebay - got a beginner one for $32 - has everything. We got it on Friday, so, of course, Friday night Esa & I were outside playing. I’m just so amazed how fast she picks it up. She knows when the clicker comes out, it’s training time! We still need to try the weave poles, but I think she'll get it. BTW - Esa will do anything for a treat - somehow, I think that's the key...... LOL!
The rest of the day was just chilling (I actually did come cleaning/organizing in our linen & office closets – hate to say it, but I enjoy organizing!) – except for the trip to Dairy Queen! I’ve been craving a Blizzard for the last week!
