What a busy weekend!
Yesterday was the community yard sale. Tons of stuff to get rid of, but only made $51.75. Better than nothing - I never expect to make much on yard sales. I just want to make something and then donate everything else. I am starting my online sales again. We'll see how that goes. I kept whatever I think I can sell online (books, music, video, "old" stuff).
Today was the Great Strides walk. We went to the Leesburg, VA walk instead of the Elliott City, MD since the Ehrie's are now in California. Fundraising went well. Dan raised $325 and I raised $400.
I am very sore right now and was tired on the walk, but it is so worth it. I kept thinking about Grace and everything she goes through everyday to stay healthy. Esa and Zed did great on the walk. It was a little humid so Esa was panting alot. We had to stop several times for water. This was her first long walk since being diagnosed with Lyme disease, so I'm sure she was tired because of that too. On the way back, we tired to find 3 geocaches, but Dan only found one. When we stopped, Esa laid down and was so tired, I was able to let go of her leash without fear of her taking off. She even saw a squirrel and didn't move!
We stopped at Roy Rogers and grabbed lunch to bring home and then Dan went to work. The pups and I took about a 2 hour nap (and the pups have been napping more too). So much for the other things I wanted to do today (grocery store, drop off recycling, drop off donations)! I've spend the rest of the day updating my online sales on Amazon.
I did talk to my nephew - he's coming down the first weekend in June on his way back from NC. Woohoo! Perfect timing too - there's a concert I want to go to that weekend!

An attempt to catch up on what's been going on in our daily lives
Back tracking to the week of May 9 - it was a crazy week......
The new life of Zed
So Dan was asked to work days starting Tuesday, May 11. He headed out before me and I put Zed in the crate and took Esa to daycare. Dan came home during lunch to check on Zed. He (Zed) was not happy. He had pulled the towels we had on top of the crate (for drying the pups off when they come in wet) into the crate as much as possible and shredded it. Poor pup - he did NOT like being left behind. We can see this in his personality - at least it's not too much anxiety. He's fine if Esa is with him. He just didn't like the fact that Esa got to go and he didn't.
The changing winds at work
So we are all trying to get used to the former boss now being the client. Unfortunately, the personalities are still the same and it feels to me that I am the one the workload from the client comes to. Fortunately, I can vent to the new boss. Thank goodness for getting along with co-workers and them not holding things against you.
Mother's Day
Sad day and an appreciative day. I'll start with the sad - my high school girlfriend's son committed suicide that evening. He was so close to graduating and getting out of high school (where I think the issues were), but he couldn't make it. It makes you wonder why God puts the weight on people - MC has had so many trials and tribulations - yet she pulls through. My heart goes out to her. Even though we aren't as close as we used to be, I will always consider her my friend.
The appreciative part - on Facebook, I copied a status that my friend had (see below) - it really touched me that people who didn't even know my mom or I don't think even knew that my mom has passed posted "like"
Ronalyn Wentz Dear Mom, I wish Heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again. I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part. God has you in his arms, I have you in my heart. Repost if your Mom's in Heaven - May 9 at 8:29pm

Present day event = yesterdays memories
So I was driving to work, just like always and got in the turning lane to turn into the aiport property. Since they have paved the road, they haven't put the lane paint down and the guy in front of me thought he was in a straight lane. I didn't figure that out until I beeped twice and he didn't go on the red. He proceeded to get out of the car and came back and yelled at me - "Can't you see it goes straight! Asshole". I noticed when he got back in the car he wasn't alone, someone was in the passenger side. I have gone that way for 11 years and know that it is a turn lane, but didn't notice until that night that the lanes aren't marked. It really upset me - not that the guy yelled at me, but it brought back flashbacks. That was exactly something my dad would have done. I was upset because I totally understood how the person in the car felt - so embarassed. It took me awhile to get over it. It's weird how you don't think of something for such a long time and all of the sudden all of the feelings come back up. You think you are over the emotional pain - it's out of your life, but it's still there - deep down.
I was upset until I started my walk into the building - then I started seeing the smiling faces that I see everyday and thought - I am not going to let one asshole ruin my day. All of these people that I see everyday, make me smile and care about me. It's nice to like the place you work.
The weekend - decorating, supporting a charity & seeing an old friend
Ever since I moved into the back office at work, I've said that I was going to paint it Capitals red. Well, it's done thanks to Dan helping me out. I'm still working on the decorating, but it's getting there.

Sunday was Great Strides. The trip up and back were fine. Zed used his harness for the first time and did a good job. The walk was a success with Grace's Aces raising over $26,000. We introduced Zed to the Ehries for the first time and Grace was in love. She asked if she could take him - I thought she just meant until the beginning of the walk. I was mistaken. She took him for the whole walk and he kept up with her (something I couldn't do)! I won the scrapbooking basket in the silent auction - lost the Miche purses bid.
That night, Dan and I met up with my old college buddy, Mike. I haven't seen him in probably 15 years. It was great catching up with him and I think Dan had fun too.

Busy, successful day!
Great Strides was a success today! Luckily the rain held off! That was the biggest concern. We bidded on 2 items in the silent auction and won them. We know how to win at a silent auction since we've done a couple of them - just wait until the last minute and put the highest bid in.
We won a signed Capitals Young Guns poster (Green, Semin, Ovie and Backstrom) and Creative Memories (scrapbooking) items. Also got our 4 rose bushes.
Esa was so tired at the end, but she keeps going. She layed down for a while when we got home, but that's been it. We were surprised when she wanted to go for an evening walk.
When we got home, we had dinner and then over to Bloom for our second shopping triple coupon trip! We spent about $78, but saved $74! NICE! We should be set for awhile.

Successful Grace’s Aces
What a day, but it feels great. Like we accomplished something good.
We headed out about 9 a.m. to Elkridge, MD - about 1 hour away. Nicole was there setting up when we got there. I helped with the registration table. Man, it was tough keeping it all in order. No wonder Nicole needed help! Anyway, Nicole thinks we raised over $30,000!
About 15 minutes before the "walk" started - here comes the rain! YUCK! Anyway, Dan and I had already said - we could walk one day in the rain compared to what Grace and her family has to do daily.
We did the "short" walk - just because of the rain. After standing in the rain until 2 p.m., we decided to get going.
We were supposed to go visit Cash, but by 2 p.m. we were all miserable. So we will be planning a date for the "kids" to get together.
Esa did well - only towards the end did she get restless, but I thing we all were!
We stopped at DQ got home around 3:30. Then we all took naps. I didn't wake up until 6 p.m.! Dan was on the computer when I woke up, but Esa was still sleeping. OBVIOUSLY, we were all tired. BUT - definitely worth it!

Support CFF!
This is one cause that is close to Dan, me and Esa. My co-worker's daughter has CFF and every year we support them by walking in Great Strides. The Ehrie's (along with doggie, Cash) are a great family and we so want to support them in anyway possible.
If possible, please donate to Great Strides. Last year, Team Grace's Aces raised over $20,000. We are hoping to at least match that goal again.

Well - what a weekend - totally wiped out and counting the days until Saturday when the vacation starts!
Esa had her first puppy class on Saturday. There was a bit of a mix up. Petsmart had it listed as a group class at 12 noon. We showed up and the trainer had a private class. She said we could come in at 12:30 or wait until 1 to have a separate class. We waited until 1. Esa was so tired, but she did SO well. The trainer (Leslie) was impressed with her. Leslie said that she has a couple of 1 year olds that can't do what Esa was doing. Thank goodness her german shepherd is coming out in the training!
Yesterday, we had the CF Walk. Esa did great - she was well behaved with all of the people touching her and LOVED the walk in the woods. She took a couple of breaks (we had water with us for her), but the breaks weren't that long. The photographer took a couple of pictures of her too, so she'll probably be on the website! Afterwards, she crashed, but I could tell it wasn't the usual deep sleep.

Esa did great on the hour drive up and back. I sat in the back with her. On the way up, she was interested in looking out the windows. On the way back, she was way to tired and just laid down beside me.
At home is when she REALLY crashed. I think she took like a 2 hour nap! Of course we had a hard time getting her to sleep at bedtime then.

We had a full THREE DAY weekend!
Saturday, we went to Matt & Nicole Ehrie's house to visit and learn more about Cystic Fibrosis and the charity walk (Great Strides). Matt & Nicole's daughter, Grace, has CF and we were just amazed at what medical attention Grace has to go through. Dan and I have walked in Great Strides for the last 2 years and are very excited that this year we can walk with the Ehries. We do whatever we can to support them. When we donated the Isuzu Amigo, we donated it to CF.
On the way back home (Matt & Nicole live near Baltimore), we stopped at Tom (Dan's best friend) & Kat's house. In the past, their daughter, Anabelle, has been "afraid" of Dan - who knows why, but this time, we turned a corner. She was all over him. Sebastian, their son, is getting so big and his own little personality. Dan even held him!
Sunday, was errand day - lunch at Roy Rogers and then shopping at Office Depot and Gamestop, and a return to Petsmart. Then back home in time for the hockey game - and to see Zednik score the first goal for the Caps! Suzanne stopped by later to pick up some stuff. Just full of friends this weekend!
Monday was more errands - Chipotle for lunch, and shopping at CVS, Lowes and then groceries. Relaxed the rest of the day - Dan did a few honey-do things, but we basically relaxed.
We both felt that we accomplished things this weekend or at least got out of the house and did stuff!
We'll be having a visitor next week - Cash, the Ehrie's dog, will be spending the week with us while they go on vacation. We've had Cash before - he's such a great dog (black lab). They were going to put him in a kennel or have someone come and walk him 3 times a day, but we are more than willing to take him. It'll do us some good, just to have some fur around. Dan and I are both looking forward to it. We love that dog!

Today was the walk for Cystic Fibrosis (www.cff.org). We walked in honor of Grace Ehrie, my co-worker's daughter. Grace is 3 and takes like 50 pills a day (literally) to prevent illness. Grace and her dad, Matt (my co-worker), mom Nicole and brother Cash the dog live in NJ now, but we support them in their fight against this disease by walking. This is the 2nd year we've walked and the first year as Grace's Aces of Virginia. We are hoping that next year we can recruit more people to walk.
While we were sitting around, Dan became quite the artist and did a drawing of Spongebob and Patrick.
Pictures are in the CF album.
