CHANTILLY, Va. - A portion of Dulles International Airport has been evacuated due to a suspicious bag.

The upper level of Dulles, including the ticketing area, was evacuated after a suspicious bag was found shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesperson says.



Airport officials have closed the security checkpoint to passengers. Travelers who have not yet reached the security checkpoint can expect delays.



Security guards are examining the piece of luggage, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesperson Courtney Prebich says.



The incident has not affected air traffic. Planes are still arriving at the airport and passengers are being directed to baggage claim on the lower level.

Airport officials gave the all-clear shortly after 4 p.m. Monday and passengers are being let into the airport and screening areas.



The upper level of Dulles, including the ticketing area, was evacuated after a suspicious bag was found shortly after 3 p.m., a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesperson says.



It is not yet known how the incident will affect air traffic.
