Meet Me on Monday

Questions:

1.  My current weather is _______?
???? - I just had to go to http://www.weather.com/ and check since I'm in my office at work and we don't have windows.  54 degrees & partly sunny.

2.  What is your favorite sound?
Never really thought about this......  11/1/11 - the answer to this came to me this morning while I was getting ready for work.  For some reason this question came into my mind and what was the first thing I hear (in my mind) - my baby boo purring (seriously, I heard her purr).

Babe - 8/23/88 - 1/17/07
So, the answer is a cat purring.  There is something so soothing about a cat's purr.  I will always miss my baby Boo.
3.  What is the worst flavor of ice cream?
Mint chocolate chip.  Chocolate isn't my favorite ice cream and just do not like the taste of mint & chocolate together (as in a Peppermint Patty)
4.  What magazine do you look for when you are stuck in the waiting room?
     People

5.  What is your favorite condiment?
I think my nieces have influenced me and have changed it from ketchup to ranch dressing.

Meet Me on Monday

Questions:

1.  My favorite kind of animal is _______?
Can I say I like cats and dogs equally?  Seriously - I've had both and love them both.  I think there was only one year that I didn't have any pets and then for 4 months when Babe (my cat) passed away.  I don't like crazy dogs, but can always handle a crazy cat.
2.  Do you like your handwriting?
Nope - never really have and it's just getting worst.  It really hit me last week too.  So much so that I printed out writing practice sheets.
3.  What is the last movie you saw?
Yentl - seriously.  At least now I can say I saw it.0
4.  Do you buy things on eBay?
YES!  I always buy Esa's Cosequin on there.  That's the cheapest place to get it.

5.  What did you have for lunch yesterday?
Believe it or not - nothing!  We had a late breakfast at scrapbooking so I didn't eat another meal until 5 pm.

Sunday Souvenir

Stephanie was right on target on what I wanted to blog about this week.

This weekend, I was at a scrapbooking retreat at Girls Night Inn.  One of the projects I wanted to do was transfer pictures from an old album (my mom's) that is the one page sticky back.  These albums are bad for pictures because they deteriate the picture.  I figured since I was transfering the pictures, I would scan them first.

I didn't end up changing albums (the albums I brought with me didn't work the way I wanted), but was able to scan in a lot of the old color pictures that I could tell were fading.

These albums have been in our family as long as I can remember.  Two albums are of family trips (the flower one on the left) and family pictures (the red one on the right).  I have looked at them many times and it is hard for me to take them apart and throw them away.  I plan on making scrapbook pages of the family trips and include the index page that my mom wrote.

One album (the middle one) was dedicated to our (my brothers' and mine) weddings.  Of course, my wedding pictures weren't in there.  It never really hit me until I started taking the album apart that my mom planned on being at my wedding and adding the pictures to that album.

I had a lot of fun scanning the old pictures in.  I want to send a cd or e-mail a lot of the pics to my brothers.  I spoke with my oldest brother, Vincent, on Monday after going through all the pictures and mentioned that one of the trips had "CNE Marina" written on it by Dad & he knew exactly what the trip was!  I was only 3 at the time (1973), so he would have been about 14.

Some of the pics that I love include my very first picture that I ever took (on our trip to Florida).  I can kind of remember taking it too.  My mom was waving in the picture so I would focus the camera towards her (and my brother Brett & Grandpa).  There were so many pictures of me and Bootsie (and it's one of many Bootsies).  It looks like I'm about 3, so it's probably one of the first Bootsies (I had about 5 of them - all male orange tabbies).

I also sorted a bunch of pictures.  I have generations of pictures.  I have mine, my parents, my aunt's (Mom's family), and my grandparent's (Dad's side).  I am lucky that either Grandma or Grandpa Clark wrote on the back of the majority of the pictures so I have a date and who is in the picture (mostly of my Dad).  One GREAT find was hidden behind a picture of my Dad and Uncle Victor.  I think it's of my grandmother.  On the back of it, it has Bert Crandall written on it (which is my great-grandfather).

Why Do Worms Come Out on the Sidewalk When It Rains?

I know - crazy post heading, but that's what was on my mind this morning.

This morning, it is raining and while I was walking into work, I noticed all of the worms on the sidewalk.  Of course, this is not the first time I have ever seen them on the sidewalk on a rainy day, I just haven't really wondered about it before.  Hence the heading.  So why do they?  Don't they realize they are just going to get stepped on and killed (or split in half)?

From ehow.com

Why Do Earthworms Come Out When it Rains?

Earthworms tend to surface in large numbers during heavy rains for several reasons, not simply because the oxygen levels in the soil changes. Earthworms need to remain moist to survive and consider rain a good thing.
  1. Earthworm Lungs

    • Earthworms do not have lungs like humans. Instead, the surface of their skin, known as a cuticle, absorbs oxygen through a process called diffusion.

    More Oxygen in Air

    • The earthworm's cuticle must remain moist to absorb oxygen. When they are in soil, they receive oxygen from air trapped underground. Rain-soaked dirt, however, fills that air space with water, and although earthworms can absorb oxygen from the water, air contains more oxygen, so they will surface for more efficient breathing.

    Favorable Moist Conditions

    • Earthworms must remain moist to breathe and need moisture to move around. After a rain, the conditions above the ground are extremely favorable to them, so they surface to move around without fear of drying out.

    Rain Mimics Evening Conditions

    • Worms come out at night when the air is moist and there is no hot sun to dry their skin. When it rains during the day, the conditions above ground resemble the cool, damp conditions at night, so worms will surface without waiting for nightfall.

    Mating Habits

    • Earthworms have a higher chance of bumping into another worm when they are on the surface after a heavy rain and can travel greater distances. Some species of earthworms seem to prefer mating in moist conditions on the surface because they have more room to maneuver.
I'm sure I learned all of this in 10th grade biology, but that was a long time ago.....

4.  Pulp or no pulp in your Orange Juice?
No preference on this - OJ is OJ to me.
5.  Who do you miss the most?
If you are talking about people who have passed - too many people - my Mom, Aunt Helen, Aunt Annie.  With living people - I miss my family in NY.  I know I would be spending a lot of time with them if we lived closer.

What We Got in the Mail Today!

It's a Ba'Noodle!  Got it for free.  Don't know what that is?  Check this out.

I can remember when this was pitched to Sully on Pitchmen.  Which, by the way, was a great show!  I loved seeing behind the scenes what went into selecting products and the testing!  Amazing!  I will never doubt the As Seen On TV stuff again (that Sully pitches anyway).
