Adventures: Family Visit

My nephew came down to visit on Sunday. Tonight at dinner he started to ask about the family tree.

FINALLY! Someone is interested! I definitely did not think it would be him though!

It's a really cool feeling that someone else is really interested in the family history too. It makes it feel like it's all worth it. :)

Adventures: Run, Walk, Wag

Esa's daycare was a sponsor of a charity walk named "Run, Walk, Wag" this last weekend (Saturday, October 27) for Northern Virginia Spay Neuter Clinic.

It was the first year ever for this event and they had a pretty good turnout - maybe about 35 people total.

We did the 1 mile walk and afterwards took part in some of the dog games and checked out the vendors.  Both of the dogs enjoyed the "hot dog game" where they had to figure out what dish the hot dog was under.  I was a little surprised that Zed did so well.  Esa, of course had no problem with it.

One of the vendors was a photographer who had a little display set up for pictures.  I'm just waiting for them to be uploaded so we can check them out.  Proceeds will be going to the clinic, so I'll probably purchase a few.  I think with the storm, they haven't been put online yet.

The Shelter was there handing out info on the CARE program.  It was a last minute thing or I would have volunteered for it!  I didn't see the table at first, but was wondering why there was a whole family with volunteer t-shirts on!

The pups enjoyed it - as always.

UPDATE:  December 13, 2012

Finally got the pictures from the professional photographer.  She had the wrong address so it was returned.  Even with the correct address, it took almost a week and she is only 10 miles away.  It ended up in New Jersey for processing and then back down here (in VA).  Crazy.

Here they are....

Adventures: Hurricane Sandy

The last couple of days have been crazy.  First with the warnings of the storm coming and the rain since Sunday.

My nephew came down from NY on Sunday.  Luckily he made it before the storm and is hanging out until Wednesday.

We made it through the storm, but Esa has had cabin fever since Sunday evening!  She didn't care if it was raining or windy - she still wanted her walks and to go outside.  Zed, on the other hand, was more than comfortable hanging out on the couch.  We had to push him outside a couple of times so that he could go the bathroom.

There doesn't seem to be any damage to the house - for once!  Since living in our house, we have replaced the fascia & secured it better due to other storms.

I did go into work for a couple of hours yesterday and did a walkthrough to make sure all of the tenants were set.  I got to see something we don't see very often - a VERY empty airport and planes lined up ready for the wind.

A very empty Dulles (sideways)

Planes lined up for the wind.

When I got home, we ordered chinese food and just hung out.  We were very lucky that we only had the lights flicker a couple of times, but that was it!  I'm happy we were able to get on the internet & watch TV!

Dan stayed home.  Which I was happy about since he would be driving home in some bad winds.

We hunkered down in the basement when the winds started and watch "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol".  Pretty good movie.

Today, I am at work, but it is very slow.  United canceled flights, so half of the airport is empty.  Right now, it's just rainining.  Zed still wasn't in for the walk.  He made it to the corner and then Dan let him off of the leash and he went running back home.

I hope everyone else is fine.
