The weekend (and Monday) update

The weekend (and Monday) update

So the weekend didn't go exactly as planned. We declared Saturday "Esa Day" because we were going to take her to Walgreens to have her picture taken (fundraising for Best Friends Sanctuary). Then we were going to go to Barktoberfest at Melodee Music in Sterling and then to Petsmart. Well, one out of three isn't bad. Both the Walgreen's event and Barktoberfest were canceled on Saturday. Walgreens, rescheduled for Oct. 11 and Barktoberfest the next day. So off to Petsmart - at least we knew that was going to be open! The rest of the day was just hanging around home since the first plan didn't work out.

Sunday, we did go to Barktoberfest. It had the usual vendors, but it was fun - we got a lot of freebies for Esa (treats and toys). We were there for about 1 1/2 hour and Esa was pooped on the way home - she was fighting staying awake.

Dan and Stephanie invited us over for "the" game (Redskins/Dallas) and a cookout. It's great having someone so close that we can hang out with (I hope you two feel the same D & S!)

Yesterday, I stayed home - sinuses were kicking in (and I've got a cough today). I worked on getting my "online shops" back up on Half.com & Amazon.com. What a lot of work - but worth it if I can make a few cents/get rid of stuff! Besides that, ran out to the grocery store to get the usual staples (milk, bread) and grabbed "27 Dresses" at Redbox. Good movie - definitely any girl can relate if she has been in ANY wedding (me - bridesmaid 6 times). Walked with Esa a bunch - we took 3 walks yesterday - she was loving it. It was a good day.

PUPPIES!

PUPPIES!

Current mood:happy

So tonight was Furry Friday with the Loudoun County Animal Shelter at the Sterling Community Center. They have this event once every month.

Last time I was there, there were a bunch of kittens. This time it was 2 puppies! Check out the pictures on my 2008 blog folder. So tempting! They were so cute. BUT I remember too well the puppy problems. Not ready for that again! They both ended up sleeping on my lap.

Too much fun this weekend!

Sep 23, 2008

Too much fun this weekend!

We had a lot of fun this weekend.

Friday I ended up just staying home - last week was a stressful week and it was nice just hanging out with puppy. Saturday, Dan and I took his government car back to his work (he turned it in since he stepped down). We ALMOST go lost - 395 was all backed up and we ended up cutting through National Airport then over to Rt 50. Somehow Dan's navigational instinct kicked in and he was able to get us to his building. It doesn't sound like much, but believe me, it was an adventure!

Then it was off to the Caps practice. It was so nice to see the players again. We saw our "ticket sales person", Harry. No season tickets for us this year - the weekend 6 pack plan has too many Fridays in the plan - so individual tickets this year - for now. They might release something after the season starts.

Afterwards, it was off to Chipotle - another adventure - we didn't know exactly where it was, I put it in the GPS on the phone, and it said it was 700 ft away. Started walking the way it said and there it was (like 50 ft from where we were).

Then it was back to the parking garage and who do we see driving out - Ovechkin! I waved to him and he waved back, drove by and TRIED to spin out. LOL! LMJS - nice car OV - white Mercedes - with the ghetto music blaring. LOL!

Yesterday, it was off to the Verizon Wireless to pick out a phone for Dan. He turned in his phone today (once again since he stepped down). He ended up getting a Chocolate phone. We stopped at PETCO, next to Verizon - I was not impressed - PetSmart is much better. Then it was home. Next thing you know, our neighbor, Dan called to see if we wanted to cookout later - they were painting the fence - and (my) Dan volunteered to help. So off he went and I ended up cleaning. About 5:30 (my) Dan called to say there was a change in plans and we were going out to a restaurant (Los Toltecos) instead. I drove since the boys (Ivan, Dan and Dan) had been drinking. (My) Dan had his 1st (and 2nd) margarita. After dinner it was back to the house and Sable was getting walked, so Lynn, Kiki & Katie Ann stopped - it was our own little party going on. Stephanie went and got Benny - so it was a puppy party too! At 8 p.m. the boys needed to get in front of the TV to watch the football game, Stephanie, Benny, Esa and me just hung out (all of us could care less about football). The kids were busy chewing rawhides.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun - thanks, Dan, Stephanie & Ivan! More fun next weekend right (since the fence isn't done)?

Waiting for Heroes to come on now - This "pre-show" party is kind of neat -showing behind the scenes stuff. Pup needs to go to bed at 9 so I can watch the show without interruption!

concert last night

Sep 14, 2008

concert last night
I am so tired today - why? I was up 20 hours straight and then only had 3 hours of sleep. I did get a little nap in late morning, but that's typical here at the Wentz household (when the pup takes her morning nap, so do we). Of course, hubby constantly runs on 3 hours of sleep and naps because of getting up with Esa in the morning.
BUT, it was worth it - Dan and I had a lot of fun last night. We got to Jaxx when Baby Jayne was on - they have been around forever and looked straight out of the 80's. After a few minutes, I told Dan, I feel like I'm in a timewarp. I used to go to Jaxx so often.
ZO2 was awesome. I had heard of them because the bass player is in TSO, but never heard their music - both of us liked it a lot. They also have a show on IFC called Z Rock - 11 p.m. on Sunday, I'm going to tape it tomorrow to check it out.
Kix was awesome as usual. No change in the performance - so great - all of the songs they usually play.
Dan started his weekend shift today - every 5 weeks he'll be working weekends and have the Wednesday before and after off. So this afternoon (and tomorrow afternoon), it'll just be me and Esa. I did some cleaning and ran out to Walgreens. Now it's getting ready for tomorrow - grocery shopping.

catching up on the trip

catching up on the trip

Thursday, Dan wasn't feeling well, so we had a late start. We went to the dog park, but that was about it. The rest of the day, we just hung around the house.

The dog park was quiet – we were the only ones there so after about 45 minutes, we left. Esa was kind of tired.

Friday, luckily Dan was feeling better, so we walked Esa, had breakfast, and then went to the beach. Esa and I just hung out while Dan went into the water with his boogie board (which ended up breaking!).

Watching Daddy-o on the boogie board
We went to Outback for our anniversary dinner. It was so good. We thought about going to a murder mystery dinner theater, but Dan kept mentioning Outback for the last week and by that time, I was craving it! It was so good! It's been a long time since we've been there.

Dan got me some nice bling for our anniversary. A diamond bracelet and necklace, the movie, High Fidelity, and the DVD of Daybreak. He liked his new watch.

It started raining when we got out of Outback, so we had to take Esa for a walk in the rain – not fun. There were no sidewalks and puddles all over so every time a car drove by, we had to get into the grass.

This morning, it was REALLY windy. As soon as started to walk Esa, it started to rain – then, as we started to walk back, it DOWNPOURED! We cut through a house property that was empty and basically across the street from our house. We were soaked! Then we did the last minute packing. We finally left about 8:45 a.m. It was ok for awhile (about Richmond) and then just downpour for the rest of the trip. It was nasty. We stopped once (I really had to go) and I got soaked. We made really good time and got home around 1:30 p.m. We've unpacked, had lunch, Dan's started the laundry, I took a long nap (about 3 hours I think). Now, I'm just hanging out, because I'm breaking out in hives – on my forearms. Not sure from what. I took some Benadryl and have put on hyrdocortisone. Just waiting for the Benadryl to kick in and me to pass out! I'm watching Daybreak – I forgot how good this show is.

We saw dolphins today!

Sep 4, 2008

we saw dolphins today!

Today was off to the dogpark and then around 3 p.m. to a dolphin watching boat tour. We really liked it – even if we hadn't see dolphins, it would have been fun, but we did see some!

It was through the Aquarium, but I think it also had people from the boat company on the ship. As we were going out, we saw a LOT of stingrays and jellyfish. There was one dolphin that actually swam with the boat for awhile. Then when we got out towards Cape Henry, we saw a couple of dolphins. They said that the last tour saw a LOT of dolphins.

Then we stopped at two shops down the road here in Sandbridge and picked up a couple of things. By then it was 6:30 – a walk on the beach with Esa and now supper. We did see dolphins when we were walking Esa. That was kind of cool.

I finished one book a few minutes ago. Let me just say, it reminds me that I need to get a health proxy done and my wishes in order. It was a sad story of what the author/mother went through when her 28 yr old daughter went into a coma and the lengths that the mother went through to keep her alive. I would never want to put my family through that if something like that happened to me.

today’s activities

Sep 3, 2008

today’s activities

Our daily plan is to wear Esa out and then in the afternoon, we can do what we want. So, off to the dog park – this time a little earlier than yesterday, back for lunch and then we were off to the aquarium. It was fun, but we were a little rushed in the second building because the "path" between the two buildings closes 20 minutes before the museum closes. But it was ok – to me, there weren't too many interesting things in the second building – except for the otters, but they weren't playing.

Oh - after seeing live seaturtles at the aquarium, we saw a dead seaturtle on the beach when we went on our evening walk. It was sad.

yesterday’s adventures

Sep 2, 2008

yesterday’s adventures

Yesterday was walking on the beach, off to the dog park (an adventure in itself) and then some shopping.

One of the reasons we picked VA Beach was because it was dog friendly and I saw that there were a couple of off-leash parks. So it said that proof of rabies was needed (we carry Esa's medical papers with us when we travel), but I figured she has her rabies tag, that will work. NOPE. We get to the park and got turned away because they need the date of the rabies shot. So 10 miles back to the house and another 10 miles back. But Esa's worth it. She had a lot of fun.

Then it was off shopping while Esa took a nap – she was definitely worn out from the dog park. We went to the closest shopping area (where Golden Corral and Walmart are). We stopped at Gamestop (Dan found a game), scrapbooking store (for our anniversary book), All Pets store (too expensive), and Dollar Tree (no good dog toys).

Then we went down to the boardwalk and hit the souvenir stores. We got a couple of tees and our usual magnet.

By the time we were done, it was 6 p.m. and time to get home. We took Esa for a walk and then dinner. That was the day.

today’s activities

today’s activities

So we ended up going to Golden Corral for lunch. YUMMY! I had never been to Golden Corral – Dan, on the other hand, worked there and had me all set up for potato skins. What happens – no potato skins.

Then it was off to Super Walmart for groceries. I have never grocery shopped in a Super Walmart. All I can say is NO Heluva Good dip! At least in French Onion – So goes shopping for items at Walmart – probably Heluva Good wouldn't discount so Walmart went to Kraft.

We ended up getting back home around 3 p.m. (of course, we didn't leave until about 11 a.m.

Then I was exhausted (since I didn't get my morning nap) so I laid down – next thing I know, it's 5 p.m. – and I don't feel well – my tummy and head were hurting. So needless to say, we are just hanging out tonight. We spent some time on the beach – Esa can go on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.

Maybe we'll watch some videos or something – We picked up "Stand By Me" and "Lemony Snickett" for $5 each at Walmart today – plus we brought some.
