Book Review - Renewal "Anytime" 10 Day Detox by Lisa Consiglio Ryan

About two years ago, I did Lisa's 3 day detox that was all juicing.  After that, I decided that juicing wasn't for me.

Anyway - then I got asked to do a review of Lisa's book, Renewal "Anytime" 10 Day Detox.  I will say this - I am not a good diet follower.  I have read the book and decided - I can at least try some of these recipes!  I am a terrible eater.  I know I need to eat better, but ...  So I figure I can at least do the day stuff Monday through Friday, when it’s just me.

Lisa makes following this cleanse so easy - right down to the shopping list.  Recipes are easy, items can be found in your local grocery store, and she gives you options if you don't like the recipes that are in the basic 10 day cleanse.  The only improvement might have been to break down the shopping list by week, but if you just cut the amounts in half, you have the amounts for the week.

The recipes I did do were easy and were good.  I will be trying some of these recipes again.  The biggest obstacle is getting my taste buds used to the new items that I am trying.   It is a great kick start for a healthy eating program.  The foods are filling and do not take long to make.

I also know that Lisa is available if there are ever any questions.  She wants you to be successful and is very supportive.

Lose weight, energize, and glow with over 50 recipes and complete 10 day detox plan. This whole foods cleanse includes detailed menu plan, shopping list, and bonus recipes to make after your cleanse. Renewal "Anytime" also includes pre-detox plan, daily instructions, FAQ's, and post-detox next steps.

Available to buy from....

Welcome!   Are you ready to get your detox on?

I have so many exciting things in store for you.

If you need a quick pick-me-up after vacation or a binge weekend, Renewal “Anytime” is a perfect body reboot. You can also use this detox if you need to look amazing fast for a wedding, reunion, or big event.

Before you embark on your detox journey, I want to talk about the word BALANCE.

Ahhhh, balance.

You are told to strive for balance in your life. In my opinion, that’s pretty difficult to accomplish. There are so many outside sources that can get you out of whack with life: new job, moving, marriage, trips, environmental toxins…the list is endless.

You can’t control every single thing in your life. You can, however, control what you put into your body and how you deal with stress.

That’s why I developed the Renewal “Anytime” 10 Day Detox. Think of this plan as a clean living jumpstart. You will start with eating clean, whole foods. You will also incorporate exercise, breathing and even dry brushing and massage.

Let’s call it a RE-BALANCE.

Your body is always striving for balance to keep you in optimum health, physically, mentally and emotionally. Even things like the changing seasons, nature and being around other people can move you away from the balance your body craves.

Physically, your blood needs to be at a pH level of 7.365. Have you ever heard of acidity and alkalinity? Maybe in a biology class way back? I don’t want to go into a big science lesson. What I first want you to know is something extremely important—your body loves you. Your body works hard to keep you alive.

With that love in mind, it is valuable to know that your body becomes more acidic over time due to consuming a lot of caffeine, sugar and processed foods, as well as exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, and most of all stress. The acidity leads to inflammation.

Inflammation leads to chronic disease.

Not good. We don’t want any of that. Doing a gentle cleanse is a great way to re-balance your body by pumping in alkaline foods such as dark leafy greens, veggies and fruits and taking some “me” time.

Managing stress is also a way to help your body re-balance. Try yoga, meditation or breathing exercises over the next 10 days. Or, even easier, while eating your lunch, try sitting still for 5 minutes without the TV on, texting or reading a magazine. Your body is striving for balance so make sure to participate in activities that are relaxing and soulful; alkaline activities.

While your body is working to keep you healthy make sure to get a re-balance once in awhile to help her out. You can reuse this plan after your cleanse. Use the recipes and tips to give your body a reboot each season or when you feel out of whack. Remember that having perfect balance isn’t really doable, but you can get pretty darn close by following the steps in this plan.

I’m so excited to be on this wellness journey with you. Have an amazing detox experience and keep in mind this is not about perfection but about getting a chance to RE-BALANCE.

With love,
Lisa x

Renewal “Anytime” Detox…How It Works Renewal “Anytime” Detox is for 10 days…10 days of discovering new things about your body. How glorious!

Here’s how it works:
  • Read this entire book, cover to cover, before you head to the grocery store.
  • Check your pantry. Do you have leftover quinoa or a spices that can be used for the cleanse?
  • Don’t go and buy extra items. Stick to the list, especially if you have a budget. You might have some of the ingredients hanging out in your cupboard or fridge. *Most items can be found at a natural food store. Just ask anyone in the produce section or bulk section for items you are looking for. Don’t take a lot of time searching for items. Ask for help. *I like to buy my grains like quinoa in the bulk section of the grocery store; saves me a little cash plus I can get the right amount I need for a recipe.
  • Make sure to follow the Daily Practices such as breathing and dry brushing so you have an overall holistic experience with your detox.
  • Journal during your cleanse to jot down feelings, observations, etc… This is a nice way to get to know your body better and make that body-mind connection even stronger.
  • Use the “Return to Life” section of this book to ease back after detox. Make sure to focus on what foods you don’t need or just want to introduce slowly. This packet can guide you towards a plan afterwards. As you know, each person is uniquely different, so customize your next steps per your body, schedule, and lifestyle.
  • Use the BONUS recipes after your detox to keep the glow going. These recipes will also help you ease back into “regular life” without shocking your system.

Adventures in being sick - update

Monday, I went to the doctor and got another round of antibiotics.  He also suggested going to an ENT.  I mentioned that I had an allergist, so he said yes, go see him.

So, today I went to the allergist. He said that sometimes it takes more than one round of antibiotics to get rid of the infection.  However, he suggested that I get an allergy test since its been about 7 years since I last had one.

He said that then we'll talk about an ENT if the infections continue.

Fortunately, I have felt better then last two days.  It's like the stuff is finally moving.  How I usually feel when the sinus infection is on the way gone.

We'll see in a couple of days.

Adventures in Being Sick

Since about mid-January, I have been having sinus issues.  It all started during my 2nd weekend of staying at a hotel while being a vendor for Yarly at a scrapbooking crop.

Feb 7, I went to the walk-in clinic because I couldn't get ahold of my primary doctor.  It was confirmed I had a sinus and ear infection and was put on an antibiotic and a steroid.  Two weeks later, after finishing both meds, I was still feeling sick so went to my primary doctor and he gave me a 2nd round of antibiotics and said to take a decongestant.  Once again felt better, but now that I'm off the antibiotics, I'm feeling sick again.  I've had a sore throat for 4 days.

I'm going to see about getting into the doctor again tomorrow.  This just sucks.

Adventures in Health: Slender FX recipe #2

Today I tried a different way to make my meal replacement.

I used French Vanilla Slender FX and mixed it with yogurt.  It was a success.  I kept mixing it as I ate the yogurt and didn't feel any gritty taste.

Adventures in Health: Beyond Tangy Tangerine

One of the basic products of Youngevity is Beyond Tangy Tangerine (BTT).

I have tried it before, in a 16 oz bottled water and didn't like it.  I have been wanting to try it in juice to see if I liked it better.  Today I did just that!

I used the blender bottle I received as a gift this weekend at my upline's scrapbooking retreat, filled it half full with water (12 oz) and half with orange juice (12 oz).  SUCCESS!  I liked it.  I think I downed the whole thing within an hour or two.

Adventures in Health: SlenderFX

One of the products that I tried with Youngevity is the SlenderFX French Vanilla.  I tried it straight with milk and used the blender.  It was kind of gritty, but good.

Awhile ago, I found a recipe on the Facebook group HBC30 that sounded good.

I decided to try this, but with strawberry yogurt and frozen strawberries.

Note: my blender was originally my mom's and therefore probably 50 years old, if not old.  It still works great, however I think this recipe is more for an up-to-date blender that can handle the "extracting" thing that is popular.

All mixed up - consistence wasn't what I expected.  It was crunchy (the crushed ice cubes) and the strawberries were still solid.  However, the SlenderFX was totally mixed in and no gritty taste.

Someone was jealous and waiting to see if he was getting anything.

Of course he did! And of course he loved it.

Adventures in Health: 3 day cleanse

Since my tastebuds have changed within the last 9 months, I've been wondering how my body would react to a cleanse.

One of the products from Youngevity is a 3-day cleanse.  I was a little worried because last night on a couple of Facebook groups people were saying that they did not like the taste of the juice.  The cleanse is pre-bottled so it's easy to do and came in two flavors.  It is supposed to drink a bottle every 2 hours.

First drink up -   Citrus flavored.  Not bad.

The next flavor up, Orange Cinnamon.  I didn't expect a kick at the end of a sip of cinnamon.  Again, not bad.

After the 2nd bottle, my mouth felt a little coated.  After brushing my teeth again, my mouth felt better.

Right now, it's 2 pm and I'm hungry.  I am a little tired and I am drinking a diet coke right now.  I just needed something else besides the drinks and water.

6:13 PM
I am so tired of the drinks.  And I'll admit it - I cheated.  I was so HUNGRY!  I ended up having 2 Grand biscuits which were left over from last night's dinner.  Then I ended up having about an hour nap (much longer than usual).

I'm going to try to get this bottle down, and maybe one more at 8 pm (since that will be 6 bottles for the day).  I kind of got off track with the every 2 hours since I fell asleep around 2:15 pm and didn't wake up until 3:30 pm, then Zed wanted to go for a walk, so I took the next drink at 4 pm.

Thursday - 8 pm
So I have decided that cleanses just aren't for me.  I like to eat something and not just drink.  Yesterday I ended up eating left over pasta about 6:30 pm.  Yet, I still lost 3 lbs yesterday.  Today I made it until about 4 pm and the ate.  I had 3 bottles.  I was on the go today.  I know that that's probably why I was hungry.  Also I have been walking 3 miles on the treadmill.  I read in the online pamphlet that you're not supposed to exercise when you are cleansing.  Also in the pamphlet, it says to drink 1 to 2 bottles per day.  So I will drink what I can tomorrow and continue to drink 1 or 2 until they are gone.  Or I might just extend this cleanse through Saturday.

Friday - 10:30 am
This morning, my stomach does not feel good.  So much so that I don't even want to drink the cleanse, and want to stick to water.  I was only able to walk for 2 miles because my stomach did not feel good.

I'm sure this is part of the process.  My body is getting rid of the junk in it.  Or getting rid of the carbs I have put in it the last couple of days.  I weighed myself today and I am up 2 pounds.  I know it's because of the pasta.

Adventures (in Health): Day 32 on Youngevity

As of today, I have been on Youngevity Classic 90 for 32 days!

I started taking approximately 2 tablespoons of Ultimate Classic and 3 capsules of Ultimate EFA daily.

I finally found a good item to mix the Ultimate Classic with - a protein shake.  I first tried taking the Ultimate Classic straight.  YUCK.  The next day, in unsweetened tea - still not that great.  The next day, milk - pretty good!  Then I figured, why not try protein shakes?  YUMMY - even better than milk!

I have been switching between vanilla and strawberry shakes and it's been working out well.  Before that, I never really drank milk, so this is helping me get some extra calcium.  The Ultimate EFA has replaced the 4000 mg of fish oil that I have been taking for the last couple of years (per doctor's order).

Unfortunately, for the last couple of weeks, I have not been doing well with walking on the treadmill.  That will be changing because I have seen my blood pressure going back up (like 130/90).  So January was one positive health item and one negative item.

I think the Ultimate Classic has helped my body digest food better.  I feel more regular and even without taking fiber pills (which I did not take for a while because I ran out).

I'm not the only one in the household taking Youngevity products.  Zed just started taking Healthy Pet Combo.

The first day (and second day), he took the perPetual fine.  He treated it as a treat since it's a chewable pill.  The dose for the ArthryDex 3/4 scoop which I put over his food dry.  Well, it was way too much.  Zed ate it, but then was licking so much afterwards, like he had a cup of peanut butter.

Here's a picture of him just licking way.

So after that, I posted to the YGY Pets Facebook group asking how people give their pets ArthryDex.  Several people posted that they mixed it with 1/4 cup water and made a gravy out of it.  The next day, I tried that - MUCH better.  He just ate the gravy straight.

The next step in my health change is that I am going to try doing replacement shakes for lunch.  So many times, I have breakfast around 10 am and then don't think about eating lunch until like 2 pm.  Then I think, I don't want to eat too much - dinner will be soon.

I am also going to try to do a 3 day cleanse.  I'm interested in seeing how my body reacts to a cleanse since I no longer have food cravings.  I'll be blogging about it.

Adventures (in health): Day 7 of Youngevity

Today, I tried mixing the Ultimate Classic with a strawberry Special K protein.  It was good and covered up the taste of the Ultimate Classic pretty good.

I plan on going back and forth between the two flavors of Special K.  I use about half a shake a day.

I also walked on the treadmill today.  I did 1.5 miles at 2.5 MPH.  Slowly getting back to where I was (3 miles at 3 MPH)

Adventures (in Health): Day 5 of Youngevity

We did some grocery shopping yesterday and purchased some Special K Protein shakes for cheap.  Harris Teeter had them on sale for $4.99, then with my VIC savings I got it for $3.66, then I had a 70 cent coupon that was doubled!  Final price:  $2.66

I thought they would be good for mixing with my Ultimate Classic.  I was right!  Wow!  It was better than with milk!

This was with French Vanilla.  I also bought strawberry.

I got back on the treadmill today too.  I just did one mile at 2.5 MPH.  I was up to 3 miles at 3 MPH, but I took about the last 3 weeks off.  I'll eventually get back there.

Adventures (in Health): Day 3 of Youngevity

Day 3 of Youngevity and I think I found the right mix for the Ultimate Classic.

I put it in milk today, and it wasn't bad at all.  There was a little after taste but nothing like the previous days.

Adventures: Taking My Health to the Next Level

Yesterday I posted that I started taking Youngevity Ultimate Classic and Essential EFA.

Straight up, the Ultimate Classic was nasty, so today I mixed it with unsweetened iced tea.  This wasn't as bad, but still a little after taste.

Even though I am new to Youngevity, I would love to have you join me on this journey.  Please contact me for more information.

Adventures: The next steps into a healthy lifestyle

This is basically a follow-up to my August post regarding my health.

My food craving are still non-existent. When I have a former craving food, I have a "regular size" portion, not a extra large portion.

I am down about 20 pounds and when I went to the doctor in November, he took me off of the cholesterol meds.  I am walking 3 miles a day, at 3.2 miles an hour.  I've taken a couple of weeks off from walking, but look forward to starting again on Monday.

For the new year, I wanted to "take it to the next step."  I have been a distributor for Heritage Makers which is part of Youngevity.  So for the new year, I ordered the supplements pack called Classic 90 which has the basic 90 nutrients essential for health.

The pack arrived yesterday (Dec. 31), just in time for the new year!  So today was the first day.  Since I wasn't home most of the day, I only took 1 pill (up to 3 a day is suggested) and did my "shot" (1 1/2 Tablespoons).

OMG - good thing it was just a "shot"!  YUCK!  Tomorrow I might try it in some tea (since I have some) or buy some juice to mix it in.   Who knows, maybe I'll just keep with the shot and my taste buds will get used to it.

Something "clicked on" in my brain.

I have shared this with my close friends and family and now an update.

About 2 months ago, something "clicked" in my brain after a week of tummy issues.  I got off of the 6 pack of diet coke a day (ok, close to that amount) and now drink maybe 1 or 2 cans a day.  I am drinking water like crazy.  I no longer have cravings for food.  Seriously – not even Chipotle.  I eat when I am hungry and now my stomach tells me when to stop.  I also can’t stand how my mouth feels after I eat and have to brush my teeth within the hour.

If you really know me, you know I have the “Clark Stomach.”  You put food in front of me and I will eat it (maybe it has something with being Italian too).  I have struggled all my life with cravings (mostly carbs like potato chips, nachos, etc, but ice cream too) and can’t keep those trigger foods in the house.  They will be GONE.

So the last 2 months have been crazy – that’s the only way I can describe it.  Trigger foods are in the house.  I eat them, but it’s like a NORMAL portion size (WHAT?!), and they last in the house (like weeks instead of a couple of days).

This has been hard for me to comprehend, but maybe even harder for Dan since he’s used to me saying “I want (fill in the blank with my favorite restaurants)” or “I had a craving for_____” or even not finishing my plate or going back for 2nds.  I used to starting thinking of dinner at 9 am in the morning.  Now I struggle with even getting a taste for anything.  Crazy.

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I went into the doctors for a prescription renewal and told her about my week of not feeling well and how my taste buds have changed, etc.  She did a complete blood workup and a urine test.  She was worried that maybe I was having a kidney, liver, pancreas issue.  The worst thing I could think of is maybe I have diabetes (since it runs in our family).  Yesterday I went in for my lab results.

Let me just say – I am a medial miracle.  The doctor has no explanation on what has happened.  All my results came back with no organ issues.  All of my lab results have improved since they were last taken in March.

My cholesterol has gone down from 226 to 176.  My risk for diabetes was at increased risk and now is normal.

Her only response was to keep it up, start exercising, no soda, and no health/herbal supplements (sorry to my Youngevity, Body by Vi and Isagenix friends).  Follow-up in three months.

I am taking this day by day and hopefully this will last.

Adventures: We have some answers

We received a call today from the vet who did the autopsy.  He got the lab results back on the tissue samples of Esa.  Surprisingly, they found something in the results.

Esa died of Arrythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) which is common in boxers.  Crazy - but the first known sign can be sudden death.  We NEVER saw any signs of any heart issues in her 6 years.  I guess we can find peace that she died fast.  I feel better that we at least know what happened.  She lived life to the fullest (as any dog would), and I'm glad she was never sick.  We would never had been able to give her an EKG.  NEVER.  Proof in point is when we took her to the vet for Lyme disease, let alone trying to get a shot in her at home!

Still, it's hard.  This is something that goes undetected, dogs and humans.  We never expected this.  Zed is the one with a heart murmur.

Esa's ashes are home and we have a little shrine in her chair (ashes, collar and her "red" which is her red kong bone that she liked getting her treats in) for now.  Part of the grieving process.

In her chair when she was little

Adventures: Juice It Up - 3 Day Juicing Detox

So a couple of weeks ago, a friend decided to do the 10 day Spring Renewal with Whole Health Designs.  I wasn't sure about doing the 10 day, but shortly after that the 3 Day Juice It Up Detox was offered for free.    I figured, I could do this!  It's only 3 days!

Monday morning, I went to the grocery store and purchased everything that I could/didn't need (thought I had at home).  This was tough because I had already walked over 1.5 miles and hadn't had anything juice yet.  Just water.  I was surprised that the water really filled me up.

When I got home, I started the juicing!  Now, I haven't had my juicer out in a trillion years (ok, maybe sometime before 2006).  I'll admit it, I kind of forgot how to used it.  I didn't put the juice catcher on the right side.  LOL!

Anyway, JUICE TIME!
My Juice area

Here's my Monday review and pictures of the juices I had to do:
Beauty remedy - tastes greeny but good! Maybe because I like cukes.

Grapefruit & Mint- no mint for me. Thought I had some but nope. That's ok because I like grapefruit!

Go Green - YUCK.  Too greeny for me.  I made it through it though.  I couldn't find Swiss Chard at the store - maybe that would have made a difference in the taste?

Coconut Water - I hope Coconut Milk is the same, because that's what I got.  I LIKE IT!
Immune Booster - YUCK - another one too greeny for me, but was a trooper and made it through.

Almond Milk - I LIKE IT!  I'll admit it, I made a boo-boo & picked up Vanilla favored.  Hubby was just getting home when I was drinking it and tried it.  He liked it too!  Was wondering what it would taste like in cereal.

I did make the vegetable broth that was suggested.  It was ok.

Oh - I didn't have Bay Leaf, so I put in some Basil Seasoning (hence the floating things in the broth).

Now, I finished everything by like 7:30 pm.  That's when the obsessions started.  I really wanted a diet coke....and goldfish crackers.  The craving for the diet coke started about 4 pm.  I just wanted that carbination and something with "taste".  The headache started some time after that.  Not bad for not having caffeine all day.  The pain wasn't too bad.  By 10 pm, I was headed to bed.  I was tired, had a headache and knew that I needed to go to bed so that I would stop wanting the diet coke or carbs.

Tuesday
It's about 2:30 pm and I'm typing all of this up.  I'll be updating this entry as I go.  Just to keep my mind off of it and get me to focus on something.  That seems to be an issue, I can't focus.  Usually I have a game plan for the day, and I feel like I can't focus on what I need to do/want to do.

I've been drinking a bunch of water and have had a small headache all day.  I walked about 1 mile with the pups this morning and gave up because Esa was just not doing well on the walk.  When I came back, I laid down with an ice pack on my head and fell asleep for a little while.  The headache is still there, but not too bad.  I'm so surprised I'm not in worst shape.  I read some of the posts on the Facebook Group for the people who are doing this and they have had it rough.  Either my body isn't in too bad a shape or isn't missing it (??? - now that sounds crazy).

Juice Reviews for Tuesday:
Beauty Remedy (9 am)- This morning, I tried to do a double dose of Beauty Remedy.  Couldn't do it.  I got about one serving down.  I wanted to do a double serving because I had a feeling I wouldn't do well on the other juices.
Grapefruit & Mint (11 am)- once again, without mint, but no problems drinking this.  I like grapefruit!  BTW - I don't know when the last time I had a grapefruit.
Go Green (1 pm)- Couldn't do it - I drank maybe a third of the drink.  I get to a point where I rather not eat/juice than to stomach something.
Love juice (6pm) - More like hate juice - I took about 3 sips and couldn't do it. It tasted like dirt.  Hubby actually took a sip too & didn't like it either.
8:30 feeling pretty good. A little hungry & want a diet coke - more for the taste.

Wednesday
It's 7 am and I've been up for about 15 minutes.  Wide awake, no issues.  I did go to bed at 10 pm last night, and hardly made it to 10 pm  I started falling asleep watching tv at like 9:15 pm.

Beauty Remedy (8:30 am) - I got about 1/2 of this down then couldn't do it and that was with sips of water inbetween.  I tell you, if the taste buds don't like it, forget it.  I rather go without.  And this was the one drink I liked.

As of right now, I feel more conscious of my body and the fat (tummy (especially the tummy), butt & arms areas).  It sucks.  I wish the fat would just disappear.  I have lost a couple of pounds during the detox, but nothing major.  Something I think I could do if I ate properly.

I'll probably end up going through the motions today, but I can't wait to eat some real food - or should I say CHEW some food.  Juicing is just really messy and time consuming.  I have a hard enough time making dinner because it is time consuming.  Ok, also because I'm not a cook (but I'm trying to become one).

I am feeling good and the water is helping me in the morning.  Even if I could at least keep the water going, that is a BIG deal for me.  I will probably look into other forms of getting juice in my body (V8 anyone?).  This experience has helped me & I'm proud of myself for sticking to it.

Grapefruit & Mint (11 am) - drinking it straight again.  No issues - I down this no problem.

12:15 pm - I AM HUNGRY!!! I WANT TO EAT/CHEW FOOD! I feel good though.

Go Green (1 pm) - YUCK.  I put 1 1/2 lemons in it and I think it helped some.  Plus sips of water inbetween sips of it.

2 pm - boy am I peeing a lot today!  Just FYI....

4:20 - I feel asleep for about an hour.  So I'm having my Coconut milk, which is supposed to be water, now.  I think I'm going to skip the Immune Booster.  I can't wait to eat.

Vegetable Broth - I had some about 6 pm and that's it.  I'm done - I had a Luigi's italian ice at 8 pm.

Juicing is messy and I would rather eat my food than juice.  However, I do want to add fruits and veggies to my diet and if drinking them is an option, I need to do that.

I have a bunch of left overs from this detox.  Some I will have in a salad (smothered with dressing), some will probably be thrown out.  Hopefully, I'll eat them.

Thursday
OK, I'll admit it, I "cheated" last night.  I had goldfish crackers last night about 9 pm.

Today, I am down 3 lbs from Monday.  Not back but not unexpected since I haven't been eating!  I have been good today.  Whole wheat bagel with margarine for breakfast. A salad (spinach, cheese, cukes, dressing, & manadrin oranges) for lunch and ONE DIET COKE.  That's right - ONE!  AND IT TASTED GREAT!  This is still a big deal for me.  If I can at least limit my diet cokes and up my water, that a success.

Taking Advantage of: Free Diabetes Awareness Bracelet

I usually don't go for the causes bracelets, but this has special meaning.

Get it free - Diabetes Awareness Bracelet

Diabetes (type 2) runs on my mom's side of the family & my mom passed away from complications from diabetes.

This may not make it to my wrist, but it will be where I can see it everyday to remind me to take care of myself.
